My manager is an awesome guy. He helped me deal with the crazy annoying people that bugged me at work. He's been supportive and understanding and more than willing to listen to me rant about any number of things.

This manager is being transfered. The new manager is my age, in fact he went to highschool with me. Those normally would be pluses.

Unconfirmed, but he's already said disparaging remarks about me or rather 'people like me'.

Given that he attends a very small nondenominational sect church that meets in rotating family member's basements it is not hard to discern what he means by 'people like me'.

This may not go well.

Maybe see if you can get your current manager to put in a good word with his boss about your performance? If the new guy tries to start anything nasty, it could help.

Wait until remarks are personally confirmed before assuming that they're true. Could be someone else messing with you. I've had that happen more than once in the past, and ended up having to apologize and go beat down a friend, who tried to pawn it off as 'misunderstanding' the comments.

Still, sucks that the cool manager is going elsewhere. Here's hoping that the new guy will be won over by your charm and personality, rather than only listening to environmentally induced prejudice, if he is in fact making that kind of comment.

Well, on the plus side, nice to see I'll be able to get followers if I ever start up that cult I've been planning...

Hmmmm... That sounds remarkably like something else we (supposedly) just heard...

"[Those people] are dangerous! I mean VERY DANGEROUS in a bad way!!!!" You need to watch out for "people like them."

Perhaps you would be interested in being introduced to Kettle, Mr. Pot.

Quentin grew up in a family like this, he speaks from plenty of experience. I won't speak any more for him, he can do that himself, but in his situation that sentence is completely warranted.

That's fine, but then that's just anecdotal evidence. It the same as saying, "I know this jew / christian / black / asian / transsexual / etc ... that's a real jerk, hence all of THOSE people are real jerks." By doing so, you make the same mistake for which you accuse "them".

What's worse is that since you have no direct knowledge of him making said statements, your probable masked anger while dealing with him will only reinforce any stereotypes he may have.

Why don't you just try treating and dealing with him the way you wish to be treated and dealt? Don't start by making this another US vs THEM scenario that really is just hidden lose-lose situation.

I never said I was going to do anything but tolerate the situation. I have no problem with evangelicals, but they often have problems with me. Transsexuality is different from homosexuality in that it is simply there, physical and visual.

A gay person can simply just not talk about his or her lifestyle. I can do so similarly, but as soon as he looks at the employee records, he will notice my name is Richard and not Rachel in the books. There is no way to not discuss myself.

The evidence is more than a little anecdotal. The people warning me of him are my current manager and the region's manager.

Woah, that's kinda disturbing... Sure hope they're not actually like that!

What is it with people, anyways... "Them folks're differn't! Eeew!"

Yikers!
Well hopefully the crazy or rather close minded guy doesn't create to many issues with you. The whole rotating basement sect thing, well gosh that just sounds SO fun.

Again, yikers.

This is going to be one of those "interesting times" they refer to in the Chinese curse, sad to say.

Let's hope the scuttlebutt is wrong, and he turns out to be decent about it. That he went to school with you is just another complication in the entire picture.

If you want to say he's part of a cult, that's fine, but you won't be laughing when the spaceship ran by Jesus and Elvis returns to earth.
